Out of the cup; but no shame

The Socceroos are out of the World Cup after a last-minute goal to the Italians in the first knock-out round. Australia had its chances against the many-times world champions, but couldn't convert.

While it was a heart-stopping, and for some heartbreaking, way to go out, our Aussie boys can hold their heads high - they outperformed themselves and exceeded almost everyone's expectations.

Well done lads!

Anne, what a shame we won't meet in the finals!!

Hear hear Lily - I didn't see the match but from what I hear they were robbed at the very last minute - or should that read just after the last minute - sad to see them go - one of the few teams who've gone and just enjoyed without all the nastiness that can sometimes creep into football (can you tell I saw some of the Portugal Holland match the night before) Now if this was rugby both those teams would have all been sin-binned and there'd be no-one left to take the ball :o) Often think that the football fraternity have a lot to learn from the rugby guys :o) However better luck next time Socceroos!
